Bryce Canyon
… and some guys runnin’ a half marathon
Southern Utah is breathtaking! My favorite location is Bryce Canyon, and we got to take a quick trip their a few weeks ago to watch Eric and our oldest son Ryan run a half marathon. Brent Housley, Ryan’s friend, also ran.
Bryce is usually quite hot. But on this day the weather was WET! It rained more than it had in two years. The runners were slipping around. The locals were dancing in the mud puddles. It was quite a sight. The guys did amazing (Ryan took third in his category!)
Bryce Canyon is one place in Southern Utah I can’t wait to see Eric paint. It’s actually not a canyon but more of an amphitheater created by erosion. The geological red statuettes jetting up from the ground are called hoodoos. I doubt you’ll find anything like this anywhere but in Southern Utah… our back yard (about 4 hour drive). Needless to say, it’s a spectacular view and a fabulous hike.
One place in Southern Utah Eric has painted is the Delicate Arch. This place is amazing and is the most widely-recognized landmark in Arches National Park. You’ll see it depicted on Utah license plates. We also have a postage stamp with the Delicate Arch commemorating Utah’s centennial anniversary of statehood in 1996. The Olympic Torch Relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics also passed through this beautiful place.

Very nice of Ryan and Brent to run with the “old guy”. Ryan do you know where you are headed for med school ?
