Waikiki, meaning Sprouting Fresh Water in Hawaiian
Eric has painted Waikiki Beach, probably the most famous beach in the world. And if you like the crowds and excitement of famous places, then this the place for you.
Here you’ll find a sea of bronzed bodies as well as a surf full of happy children, boogie and surf boards (that you can rent on the beach for a pretty penny), and snorkelers. Our son just bounced around in the waves while we were there and two turtles came up to swim around him. Now, if that isn’t magical I don’t know what is?
As you look around you’ll see high rises, hotels, restaurants and great shopping. The Waikiki Shopping Plaza has 5 levels of shopping. If you want higher-end shopping, such as Armani and Tiffany’s, go to the west end of Waikiki and be ready to shell out the clams!
One thing I enjoyed most when we were there a few years ago was the hike to the Diamond Head Crater. You can see Diamond Head in the painting. It’s a defining landmark in Honolulu — an ancient volcano. At the top you get a breathtaking view of the city and southern coast of Oahu.
Honolulu is a big place and Waikiki seems to be its crown jewel. Take a few days and enjoy the energy of the place. Then, when you’re needing more solitude, take a drive to the north shore, where we just spend a few glorious days. We’ll talk about that next!

Hi Deb,
I’ve been looking for blog posts about Oahu to feature on our site. If you’re interested, you can drop me a line at Kate (at) Dwellable (.com)
Thanks!
ps.. I’m a Kate not Kathy, so I can totally relate to your Deb not Debbie
